Fastify v5 is Now Officially Released!

After two years of hard work, we are excited to announce the General Availability (GA) release of the fifth major version of Fastify! This release has two key objectives:

  1. Simplify long-term maintenance by dropping support for outdated Node.js versions, with Fastify v5 now targeting Node.js v20 and above.
  2. Streamline the framework by removing all deprecated APIs accumulated over the past two years of improvements.

Check out the complete migration guide here for detailed information on upgrading to v5.

Fastify's Growth and Success

The Fastify project continues to grow rapidly, with a thriving community that now includes 22 maintainers, 400 active contributors, over four thousand commits, 285 releases, 2,300 forks, 7.8 million downloads per month, and 296 officially recognized plugins.

Downloads per month

As we celebrate the release of Fastify v5, we want to acknowledge the tremendous job done by the  Fastify team and the wider community.

Fastify v4 was a wildly successful release line, doubling the number of downloads in the last two years, with over 7.8 million downloads in August 2024 alone. In doing so, we provided our most extended major release ever, with 28 minor releases, all without breaking changes  or compromising performance or the developer experience. This achievement is a testament to the stability of the framework and the dedication of those who help maintain it. Fastify v4 will be retired on June 30, 2025.
