We’re happy to welcome three new members on the OpenJS Foundation Board of Directors, and three that were re-elected. Together, they are filling positions on the Gold, Silver and Community level. We are honored to have their expertise at the OpenJS Foundation!

The board sets technical policy, including our mission and vision that shape the overarching scope of foundation initiatives, technical vision, and direction.

How Board Directors Are Chosen

According to our bylaws, each Platinum member is entitled to appoint one Director to the board, and the Platinum Directors are eligible to serve as chairperson and vice-chairperson. Gold and Silver members vote among themselves to select their representatives. The Board also includes community representation, with threeCommunity Directors elected by the Cross Project Council (CPC).

Welcome our New Board Chair

Abigail Cabunoc Mayes, GitHub

Abby has been on our board since 2022 and leads GitHub’s open source maintainer programs where she works to help maintainers – and the open source ecosystem – thrive. Before joining GitHub, Abby led Mozilla’s open source engagement strategy for MozFest and trustworthy AI. She founded and led Mozilla Open Leaders, a program that has worked with over 600 open projects globally. She is active in the open source ecosystem as a current or past member of a variety of committees and editorial boards including the Journal of Open Source Software, the Mozilla Open Source Support Awards, and SustainOSS.

We’re so grateful to have Abby step into the role of board chair! Thank you so much to Shayne Boyer for his years of service in this role.

Meet our Newest Board Directors

Aaron Mitchell, HeroDevs

Aaron “Mitch” Mitchell is our newest Gold Director. Mitch is the CEO of HeroDevs, where he helps companies solve the challenges that come with running EOL open source. He previously founded venture-backed Freeplay and has led product strategy for global brands like Twitter, Sony, ADT, Siemens, and many others as a consultant. He’s a father of three that grew up on the Oregon Coast and now lives in Raleigh, NC. Welcome, Mitch!

Matt Hernandez, Microsoft

Happy to have Matt join as our new platinum director. Matt is a Principal Product Manager at Microsoft working on developer tools, with a focus on Azure and containers in Visual Studio Code. he spends most of my time figuring out how to make developers more productive whether that’s simplifying workflows, improving tooling, or bringing insights like performance and code quality directly into the development experience. Matt enjoys working closely with engineering teams to turn complex problems into simple, usable solutions, making it possible for everybody to build on the web. Welcome Matt!

Jordan Harband, Socket

We’re excited to have Jordan join our board as a CPC Director. Jordan is an Open Source maintainer, a TC39 and TC54 delegate, and has served on the OpenJS Foundation's Cross Project Council for many years, and has been on the board previously. He's currently an Open Source Architect at Socket, trying to make the OSS ecosystem as secure as possible. When he's not talking to anyone who will listen about Open Source Software, he's spending time with his family, consuming sci-fi, gardening, skiing, scuba diving, and maintaining projects. Welcome (back) Jordan!
